Nature Walks: Island Hopping in the Oslo Fjord

Discover the majestic Oslo fjord and its various islands like a local, hopping on and off ferries to hike the forests, sea cliffs, charming villages and historic sites of three islands (sometimes two, sometimes four depending on the season and ferry schedule). Nature Walks: Forest to Fjord

Hike through Europe's largest urban forest, taking in a variety of sites from traditional wooden buildings, hilltop view points, pristine lakes and enough berries to last an entire holiday! The tour begins with a stunning metro ride up the hills, starting at sea level and ending nearly 500 meters above the city and fjord below. From there, the hiking begins, climbing steeply through the Oslo "marka", a dense forest with a couple of thousand kilometers of hiking paths. Dirt paths, rocky passages and deep forest await, as we make our way to the view point of Vettakollen, a "locals only" destination for one of the best views in all of Oslo. This stop is perfect for a panoramic lunch (bring your own or purchase along the way at a café in a local forest cabin). After lunch, continue through the forest until arriving at the shores of Sognsvann, one of Oslo's prettiest lakes and perfect for a swim. The tour ends at this lake, with easy access to a metro stop for return to the city center. Hiking Tour: Trolltunga, Preikestolen & Kjerag (6 Days)

Hike the most famous trails in Norway: Trolltunga, Preikestolen, and the Kjerag. Along the way, you and your group will hike one of the biggest glaciers in Norway, as well as walk the longest wooden stairway on earth! This is one of the most dynamic tours we offer. Each day we hike up to six to eight hours at an easy pace. It will be 1000-1200 meters of elevation at the most. The hardest hike is the hike to Trolltunga; it can take up to 12 hours all together. The other days will be about 4-6 hours of hiking. You should expect scrambling and the path is rocky and a bit slippery if it rains. You should have hiking experience from similar conditions. We recommend a puffy jacket with down or synthetic. Something equivalant in warmth is also okay. SHELL / RAIN JACKET Gore-Tex or similar is mandatory. Extrememly important in Norwegian climate. The jacket must be waterproof, have a hood, and make sure you don’t get wet even if it rains all day. We recommend jackets with pit zips for ventilation.  HIKING PANTS Hiking pants comfortable for all day wear. Should fit your long underwear beneathe and fit under your rain shell pants if you choose to bring some. Zip off into shorts or an additional pair of shorts is option.  HIKING SHIRT Bring 1-2 shirts for daily hiking.  GLOVES / MITTENS 1 thin pair of gloves to protect your hands. 1 pair of over mittens for additional warmth. HATS 1 sun hat, 1 warm hat. HIKING SOCKS 2-4 pairs, we recommend wool, above the ankle, in your preferred thickness. If your footwear is not waterproof consider a gortex sock option. HIKING SHOES Bring footwear you know fits you and is comfortable. Trails can be wet and rocky. We recommend waterproof hiking boots.  BACKPACK Daypack for warm layers, food, snacks, water and needed items. 20-40 liters. SUNGLASSES UV rated, we recommend a strap to keep them in place and so they don't get lost. SUNSCREEN / CHAPSTICK Make sure the Chapstick has UV rated sunscreen in it.  WATER BOTTLE / CAMELBACK 2 liter capacity.  TOILETRIES Personal basics: shampoo, conditioner, toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, etc...
